Artistic Statement

My life mission is to inspire others and to represent the voice of the unheard. The trauma, anger, joy, and blissful emotions felt as a result of current-day events, can all be conveyed through movement. My process of composing choreography grants time to use dance as an opportunity to tell a story or share a message, without having to verbally say anything. There have been many instances where people have danced as a form of protest, which is why the responsibility and obligation as a black performer involves power, strength, and speaking measures far larger than a single individual. As an artist, my focus is to illuminate the darker and more sensitive aspects of life and this idea encourages and paves the way for my artistic platform to stand. As a dancer and choreographer, my aim is to inspire others and personally connect with everyone who witnesses my work. Throughout my career, I have established the components that help drive my artistic passion using the things that truly inspire me in this world. Exploring states of consciousness, surrealism, and the investigation of the human experience are ideas that continue to fuel my choreographic process. With these concepts being subjects of reality, I use these ideas to transform experiences into a form of movement through art.

Prior to my admission to Wayne State University, I was a company dancer at Motor City Dance Factory and shortly after high school graduation, I began teaching and choreographing under Camille Johnson, head director and owner of Motor City Dance Factory (2020-present).
